Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Project Overview
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a historic landmark in downtown Fort Worth, underwent a major renovation spanning seven floors (10-16). Upchurch played a pivotal role in the project, providing project management, preconstruction, and new construction services to modernize the building’s mechanical and plumbing systems while maintaining its architectural integrity.
Our Approach
Upchurch’s strategic planning and technical expertise were instrumental in executing this complex renovation, including:
- Comprehensive Mechanical Upgrades: Installed a new heat exchanger, a heating water loop for the renovated floors, new chilled water risers, and custom air handlers. Due to space constraints, the air handlers had to be fully disassembled and reassembled inside the mechanical rooms. Additionally, over 1,000 feet of piping per floor was cut into 10-foot sections to accommodate installation via the freight elevator.
- Precision Plumbing Installation: Executed a complete renovation of the core bathrooms and upgraded the existing sanitary and domestic water systems to align with the new floor plans.
- Efficient Project Execution: Leveraged detailed preconstruction planning and precise coordination to ensure the historic structure’s integrity remained intact while modernizing critical building infrastructure.
Outcome
Upchurch delivered a timely full-scale renovation that enhanced the mechanical and plumbing systems of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram building. The project resulted in:
- Improved climate control and energy efficiency with state-of-the-art mechanical systems.
- Modernized and fully renovated core bathrooms to support new floor plans.
- Seamless integration of new infrastructure while preserving the historic nature of the building.
- Well-coordinated project execution that minimized disruption and ensured on-time completion.
